Sepaipara is a village in an island called Konkondighi under Raidighi Police Station of South24 Paraganas district. The place is close to Sunderban area full of mangroves tree (the greatest biosphere of the world) in Bay of Bengal, about 150 Kilometer south of Kolkata, by roadways.
The South 24 Paraganas district is one of the most socio-economically backward district of West Bengal, as there is no industries here. The land is sandiloma, in most of the area there are one crop in the year. The water of the small rivers is salty so cannot be used for agriculture and the underground water level is very low so irrigation is very expensive.
The area holds 236 families out of 50% Muslim and 50% schedule caste & schedule tribe. Needless to say that the people are extremely poor and education level is very low, very high rate of illiteracy among the adults. The average family income is USD 40 to 50 per month. The men and women both work as agricultural labourers. Some of them are also catching fish in the rivers. The males also migrate to Kolkata for 6 months when there is no job in the area. The present generation children are more or less go to school but they are dropout from the schools quite early to support the parents in their work in the field and directly or indirectly they become child labour.
The houses are mostly built by soil and bamboos. There are no electricity, no water sources in home. The life is quite difficult in Summer with 44 degrees Celsius and in Winter it 9 degree Celsius with very little clothing.
