Anweshan Integrated Community Development Project is situated by the railway line of Mankundu station. The place is called Adarshanagore. This human settlement was formed by the Bangladeshi refugees around 1980s. Some of them also came here from other districts. The adults were mostly illiterate and the children were not introduced to school in time and used to drop out very soon after enrolment.
The women mostly work as maid servants and men are daily casual labourers who do not have jobs every day. Hence they used to suffer from dire poverty. Although laziness, addictions and misuse of money made their life utterly complicated which prevented them to have foresight to develop their life in a better way.
We started this project in 1998. We enrolled the children in the school in proper time, provided the children tutorial and study material. Although the senior people are remaining in the same trade but the new young generation boys and girls have been educated and have found different trades like job in commercial sector, computer instructors, security personnel etc. Also the bamboo hut have been changed in to brick structure, electricity, drinking water, low cost latrines have been introduced. The standard of life have been changed but still, they need support for their children’s education, health and cultural inputs. Hence we run Tutorial for children, cultural activities, health promotion, Women Empowerment etc., We also build community hall.
