"A Loving Heart is the Truest Wisdom"

Beginning of Human Wave

In 1997, after surveying the Adarshanagore slum in Mankundu, Mr. Tapas Kumar Sur began an adult literacy class, which later shifted to children’s development due to low participation from exhausted women. He introduced Brotochary—folk dance, values, and games—for children, and with strong community support, priorities such as child education, cultural activities, health, and local infrastructure were identified. Together, they built a small bamboo tutorial hall that grew over time, offering study materials, sponsorships, dance classes, health check-ups, and micro-savings for women. Five years later, the initiative expanded to a second project in Surerbagan–Khasbagan and further extended to South 24 Parganas around Baruipur and Raidighi through Human Wave.
